John Morrison Made Promo Videos For Several OVW Talents In Developmental
John Morrison has spent several years working on his new movie, "Boone: The Bounty Hunter" and even sold his house in Manhattan Beach to pay for it.
Prior to that, Morrison self-edited highlight videos for several tag teams during his time in Ohio Valley Wrestling. He reflected on that work during his appearance on the latest episode of Colt Cabana's Art Of Wrestling podcast.
Morrison shot a video of the Heart Throbs, the team of Romeo Roselli and Antonio Thomas, that directly led to them getting called up.
"I followed Roselli and Thomas around with a camera and static and filmed all these 'It's Raining Men' dance montage videos," recalled Morrison, who graduated from California-Davis with a film degree in 2002. "I put those together and sent them to the [WWE] office."
It led to a call-up, albeit a brief one, for The Heart Throbs but also got Morrison some heat from his tag partner at the time, Joey Mercury.
"Joey was pissed one day, [saying] 'They called the Heart Throbs up because of a video that you made for them. Is there anyone else that you think you should be making videos for?' "
Morrison went on to do just that, booking photo shoots in and around Louisville, and interspersing those images with clips of he, Mercury and their manager, Melina, in action.
"We were doing like the trendy, L.A., name-dropping kids with the red carpet and the paparazzi. We started booking photo shoots by the Ohio River and downtown, the three of us dressed up in high fashion stuff. I filmed pieces of that and edited it into our videos and I started sending stuff to John Laurinaitis," Morrison said.
Morrison noted that the videos did not immediately lead to an opportunity on the main roster but, whenever the WWE writers came to visit OVW, members of the team would praise the videos.
"It put us on the map," Morrison said.
At the time, Morrison said he felt tremendous pressure for the MNM gimmick to succeed. He was repackaged into that role after spending about six months as part of the Raw roster as Eric Bischoff's assistant.
Colt Cabana prefaced the discussion by noting Morrison made and edited videos for the Heart Throbs as well as Cryme Tyme. Morrison did not speak specifically about the Cryme Time videos.
