John Cena On Why He Doesn’t Film Movies And Wrestle At The Same Time
John Cena thinks his movie roles could bring more eyes to WWE.
In the upcoming film The Wall, John Cena plays a soldier in the Middle East, wounded and pinned down by an enemy sniper. The movie premiere is set for Friday, May 12th, you can watch the trailer at the bottom of the page. Cena took time away from WWE to take part in the filming as he has done for his other movie roles in the past.
In an interview with Metro, Cena talked about the film and his unique experience as a wrestler and actor. Cena said he wishes he could wrestle and film movies at the same time, but there's a bit of a snag when it comes to liability.
"I would do both at the same time, but the movie guys are a little weird with their insurance. They don’t want me to go smashing my face up. I’m excited for all the opportunities outside the WWE ring, only because it raises awareness of the WWE. I take great pride in my profession, but I’m very aware of the perception of it. I think a lot of people think we are just what we are, and that’s it. There’s nothing wrong with that. But there are plenty of talented people who travel with the WWE and produce wonderful entertainment every week. We do live sports entertainment, and it’s like no other. To be able to do stuff like this outside of the norm and for people to say, “Wow, that’s pretty good,” that bodes well for getting more eyes on the ring," said Cena.
The Wall also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and is directed by Doug Liman who also directed Mr & Mrs Smith and The Bourne Identity. Cena has not wrestled since Wrestlemania 33, but he has been keeping busy doing a press tour for this film's release and preparing for other acting roles.
