Kurt Angle Says Brock Lesnar Was Interested In Wrestling For TNA
Brock Lesnar was once interested in crossing the line and making appearances for TNA Wrestling, according to Kurt Angle.
Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar’s pro wrestling careers were once synonymous with each other. In 2003, Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar competed for the WWE Championship across three televised singles matches including one that took place in the main event of WrestleMania 19. In 2007, Kurt Angle would wrestle Brock Lesnar for one final time in a match for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.
At the time, Kurt Angle was mainly wrestling for TNA Wrestling, the number two promotion in America following the close of World Championship Wrestling in 2001. Now, on the latest episode of his Kurt Angle Show podcast, Angle is revealing that Brock Lesnar once reached out to him about potentially finding him a spot in TNA Wrestling in 2007.
“Okay, Brock calls me. He’s not in WWE,” Kurt Angle recalls. “He says, ‘Listen, man, can you get me in TNA? —’ I probably shouldn’t even be saying this, but you know what, Brock doesn’t care. So he said, ‘Hey, what are you making?’ I told him what I was making and he said, ‘If you can get me that, I’ll come.’
“I approached TNA, and they said, ‘No, we’re not going to give him that kind of money,’” Kurt continued. “It was amazing because, I think that TNA at the time, I think they were at the top of their budget, where they couldn’t really give any more money out. I was making a lot of money. Sting was making a good bit of money, and then you had a bunch of guys on the roster. TNA, the Carter family funded it for a long time, and then TNA started making their own money, but it just wasn’t enough to bring in another guy for seven figures a year. I don’t think they were capable of doing that.”
Wrapping up the discussion about Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle says that “TNA would have lit up” if a deal could have been reached to bring in Brock Lesnar.
Ultimately, Lesnar would not return to professional wrestling until 2012 when he made his triumphant return to WWE on the WWE Raw after WrestleMania 28. On that night, Brock Lesnar attacked John Cena, and he has stayed there ever since as one of the company’s main attractions.
As for Kurt Angle, he retired following WrestleMania 35 but recently stated that he would consider coming back to wrestling for a tag team match. Read more here.
