Sheamus tries to treat every match like it’s on a WrestleMania card.
Sheamus has been a member of the WWE main roster since 2009, and he has won several titles, including four world championships, throughout his time with the company. He missed several months with an injury in 2019, but he returned in January 2020. Since then, “The Celtic Warrior” has garnered plenty of acclaim for putting on incredible matches. Among many examples, his battle with Gunther at WWE Clash at the Castle was an instant classic.
Speaking with CBSSports’ Shakiel Mahjouri on SHAK Wrestling, Sheamus recalled how, once he came back, he started approaching his career differently. He noted that he realized he had more to prove, and he also wanted to deliver great matches every time he stepped into the ring. The veteran described how, to the extent it’s possible, he tries to treat every match as if it’s WrestleMania because any bout could potentially be his last.
“I knew I had more to prove, and I came back and [thought] what have I got to lose? I thought my career was gonna be over and I got a second chance. Every time I get in that ring, it’s a blessing. It’s an opportunity to show everybody what I can do because that literally could be my last time in the ring. I don’t wanna go out that way, I don’t wanna go out in a way where it’s something lackluster. So my mentality is to treat every match as possible, given the time and given the segment and given where it is, but try and make every match you do like a WrestleMania moment or a WrestleMania match. I can’t go out there and half-ass anything. It’s just not in my DNA. I wanna go out there and put on banger after banger after banger. I wanna raise everybody,” Sheamus said.
In a recent interview, Sheamus stated that his match against Gunther at WWE Clash at the Castle was the biggest moment of his career. Check out his comments here.
