The Rock Says Randy Savage Was His Dream Opponent

The Rock names his number-one dream opponent in all of wrestling history.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is lucky enough to have wrestled many of the top legends of the ’80s and ’90s throughout his career. The Rock was lucky enough to step in the ring with legends such as Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, and Bret Hart in addition to competing against the top stars of his era like the Undertaker, Triple H, and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

There is one name, however, that eluded The Rock throughout his career, Randy Savage. Recently, The Rock shared on Instagram that Savage would have been his overall dream match, but it was never to be.

By the time The Rock debuted at the 1996 WWE Survivor Series, Randy Savage was already firmly planted at the top of the card in WCW, acting as the company’s top babyface against the freshly-turned Hulk Hogan. Ultimately, “Macho Man” would never return to WWE after leaving the company in 1994 meaning that a match against “The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment” would be forever left to the imagination of generations of wrestling fans, including Dwayne Johnson himself.

While they never shared the ring together, Johnson mimicked Randy Savage’s catchphrase during one of his early promos as WWE Champion and a member of The Corporation in 1998. Savage wound up referencing Johnson in his infamous Hulk Hogan-targeted diss track “Be A Man” from his 2003 rap album.

Today, Dwayne Johnson is the dream opponent of many wrestlers. Roman Reigns remains steadfast in his belief that if The Rock wants to step up to him, it will have to be on the grand stage of WrestleMania. However, over in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Kazuchika Okada recently stated that he would like the chance to step in the ring with “The Great One.” Learn more here.
