Matt Hardy Would Like To Have Been WWE Intercontinental Champion, But Timing Never Allowed For It
Matt Hardy would like to have been WWE Intercontinental Champion but he was never in the right place at the right time.
Matt Hardy held many different titles in WWE. In addition to the multiple Tag Team Championships he’s held, he was also WWE European champion, WWE Hardcore Champion, WWE Cruiserweight Champion, WWE United States Champion, and ECW Champion. Matt Hardy, however, never had the pleasure of being the WWE Intercontinental Champion.
Asked about it on a recent Q&A episode of his podcast, The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Matt Hardy says he would have liked to have added his name to the long lineage of Intercontinental Champions but it was just never meant to be.
“I would have, yeah. Especially because the Intercontinental Championship had so much amazing WWE history and I would have loved to [have held the belt]. I would guess probably just more than anything, wrong place, wrong time. I was probably on the opposite brand or in some different program. I was never booked in a really strong Intercontinental Title program that would have worked in a blowoff match with me winning, so I guess maybe, you know, wrong time, wrong place.”
Matt Hardy has not held a major singles title in wrestling since his time as TNA Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion. Learn more about that time in his career at this link.
Elsewhere on this podcast, Matt Hardy spoke about the need to reinvent his character any time a big change is being made. Recently, he said that he could see a scenario in AEW where he ends up being broken again. Read more here.
