Adonis, who regularly competes for AAA and Warrior Wrestling, among other promotions, recently signed with MLW, where a number of noteworthy names are part of the roster. Mance Warner, Real 1 (Enzo Amore), Jacob Fatu, and Alex Hammerstone are just a few of many examples.
Speaking on the Shining Wizards Wrestling podcast, Adonis was asked to name who he wants to face in MLW. He emphasized that he wants to clash with Fatu and Hammerstone. Fatu is a former MLW World Heavyweight Champion, and Hammerstone currently holds the gold. Adonis called the duo two of the best heavyweights in wrestling, and he admires the way they are showcasing their skills in MLW.
“Come on, there’s two guys that everybody knows, and there’s two guys that I’ve heard about. Being outside of this MLW bubble, I need a high-profile singles matches with Jacob Fatu and with Hammerstone. These guys, I’ve worked with both of them, I’ve wrestled them multiple times in multiple parts of the country. But I’m a big fan of high-profile. Those two in particular are two of the best heavyweights in wrestling right now. I admire both of them because they’re in the same vein as I am. They’re both talented, but they know their value, they know their worth. They probably could have signed a couple other TV agreements in the past few years to get them out of MLW, but they also know that they get to be themselves, they get to build on who they are, they get to showcase their abilities in a high-profile situation,” Adonis said.
Adonis continued by describing how signing with a big promotion can be detrimental because wrestlers can get lost in the shuffle. On the other hand, Hammerstone and Fatu continue to stand out on their own, both in MLW and beyond.
“A lot of people now, I don’t think too many wrestlers realize how much they cut themselves short by signing a deal to fit in with 200 wrestlers because you might end up losing all the momentum you had because you’re that desperate to fit in. Hammerstone and Jacob are not that way. They’re guys people talk about, and when they’re coming to your town, whether it’s Chicago or Philly, or even outside or MLW, they still have that star aura and that star presence about them because they’re not just blending in with everybody else,” he said.
In the same interview, Adonis discussed his decision to sign with MLW. Check out his comments here.
