MMA Legend Jose Aldo Retires From Sport
Arguably the greatest featherweight in MMA history, Jose Aldo, has decided to retire from the sport.
Combate’s Raphael Marinho and Zeca Azevedo were the first to report the news that Aldo had requested a release from the UFC which was granted.
Aldo ends his career as a true pioneer of MMA, finishing with a record of 31-8, and a list of accolades that won’t be rivaled by many. The 36-year-old Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil native was one the most dominant UFC champions of all time, holding the record for most consecutive title defenses in UFC featherweight history at seven and also has the fifth longest title reign in the promotion’s history, which lasted 1,848 days. Early on in his career, Aldo was the face of the WEC after becoming the youngest champion in the company’s history when he defeated Mike Brown at WEC 44 back in November 2009.
The King of Rio’s resume is a star-studded one as well. He fought the likes of Conor McGregor, Max Holloway, Frankie Edgar, Petr Yan, Alexander Volkanovski, Chad Mendes, Urijah Faber, Kenny Florian, Chan Sung Jung, Marlon Vera, Cub Swanson, Ricardo Lamas, Rob Font, and Merab Dvalishvili over the course of his illustrious run inside of the cage.
