UFC Veteran Added To Bellator 179

A heavyweight division fight is the latest addition to the Bellator 179 card as UFC veteran Cheick Kongo takes on Augusto Sakai.

Kongo (26-10-2) will enter this fight while riding a four fight winning streak, with notable wins coming over UFC veterans Alexander Volkov, Vinicius Queiroz and Oli Thompson. Kongo has previously challenged for the Bellator MMA Heavyweight Title, losing to then champion Vitaly Minakov by decision at Bellator 115. Kongo spent just under seven years competing in the UFC and he earned a total of 11 wins during his time with the promotion.

Sakai (9-0-1) has won four fights in Bellator MMA, with those four wins coming over Matt Frembling, Dan Gallemore, Rob Horton and Alex Huddleston. Sakai will be competing for the first time in a year, with his last bout being a majority draw against Dan Charles at Bellator 155 last May. Sakai has earned seven of his nine victories as a pro by KO/TKO and the other two wins came by way of decision.

Bellator 179 takes place on Friday, May 19 from the Wembley Arena in London, England with Rory MacDonald and Paul Daley headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs via tape delay on Spike TV.
