Hawx Aerie Look Forward To Winning NWA US Tag Title Gold Despite Not Having Much ‘Internet Rub’
Hawx Aerie is looking forward to winning NWA gold for the first time ever.
PJ Hawx and his dad, Luke will be a part of the match the crown the first NWA United States Tag Team Champions during the second night of NWA 74. Speaking with Colin Tessier of WrestleZone, PJ Hawx explains how much it would mean for him to win gold with his father, reflecting on how Hurricane Ida impacted Louisiana last year.
“We get to wrestle in The Chase together, which is a very special building, it’s got a lot of history there, so that’ll be cool. We have a little bit more of a relaxing time leading up to it. When we flew in [last year], Hurricane Ida was hitting Louisiana, so we were really stressed out the entire time because we had the tapings, but a lot of stuff got knocked down,” said PJ. “Our wrestling school, we lost the school. Our homes, my mom and my brother were out of power for weeks. It’s nice to be able to kinda just go into this one, god forbid another hurricane hit, but just go into this one a little more relaxed and just focus. We get to go have fun but also come to work, and that’s the best part, when you get to mix work with play a little bit. It’s a big opportunity, I mean NWA I’d bring back the US tag titles. If we win it, or I should say maybe when, who knows, but you gotta be positive. But it’s a big opportunity. It would be great to tag with my dad and win some belts. That’s what we love to do, we love to tag wrestle with each other. It’s just a lot of fun.”
Additionally, Luke says he and his son have a lot to prove because they are not afforded having some of the “internet rub” that other wrestlers get.
“We got a lot to prove. We don’t get that Internet rub, that little bit of Internet rub because I wasn’t an ex-WWE guy. One thing that also affects us is we’re in the south, so we don’t get a lot of coverage here. Nobody picks up what’s going on here, even though WildKat’s booming and we’re selling out shows and we’re packing houses, and we got some phenomenal talent, it’s not like the internet’s really writing home about us because they haven’t picked yet. But what’s going on with us is we have something different. We have the film credentials. [PJ] is in every episode of ‘Heels’, both seasons. He’s crushing it. He’s going from project to project. I just finished several other projects. ‘Heels’ season two is dropping soon. I just did a Tv show for Netflix called ‘Obliterated’. Just worked on another show called ‘Sacrifice’ on BET this week. So I’m jumping from project to project here and there. I’m also having a little downtime, but that’s where we have those advantages. We’re not just in a wrestling bubble, we’re in an entertainment bubble, which is a lot bigger than wrestling. So we just gotta figure out how to get more wrestling fans to pay attention to what Hawx Aerie is doing. We have the entertainment side of sides, we have a bigger circle than most have, which is amazing. But we’re really just trying to hammer it away in wrestling as well and prove our stake in wrestling,” said Luke.
