AEW Dynamite (8/24) Preview: Punk vs. Mox, Potential JAS Implosion, Trios Tournament Action, More!

It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means!

Tonight, AEW Dynamite will emanate from Cincinnati, Ohio and things are sure to get nasty in ‘Natti. Just seven days after CM Punk dropped an unexpected pipebomb on AEW TV and Kenny Omega returned to the ring, AEW fans may be witness to the most important championship match in the short history of AEW.

With an unprecedented AEW World Championship unification match, an unprecedented father vs. son match, and much more, tonight is surely going to be one to remember.

Here’s everything you need to know before tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite on TBS!

There Can Only Be One Undisputed AEW World Champion!

Things between CM Punk and Jon Moxley became volatile very quickly last week. The situation heated up so quickly that this match, which was to headline AEW All Out, is going to happen tonight in Cleveland, Ohio. With many in and around the wrestling world focusing in on CM Punk off the cuff challenge to Hangman Page, Jon Moxley is looking to do what he does best and take advantage of it an explosive situation.

CM Punk has famously said that he was looking forward to the chance to test himself against Jon Moxley, as he has only been in the ring with Dean Ambrose. Both of these men have traveled down the same roads, experienced the same frustrations, and neither man is willing to give an inch when it comes to determining who is really the best wrestler in the world.

Once upon a time in a match with Dean Ambrose, CM Punk, very infamously, pooped his pants. This time, if Jon Moxley has his way, he will just knock the shit out of CM Punk. Punk, who once made a very rare appearance in Florida Championship Wrestling just to step inside the ring with a then-WWE prospect, Dean Ambrose, is not about to let someone he paved the way for take away his first, and arguably his most important championship, away from him before he can really get going.

There can only be one Undisputed Champion, tonight we find out who will earn that distinction.

United Empire vs. Death Triangle!

In Trios Tag Team Championship Tournament action, Aussie Open goes up against Death Triangle. With Will Ospreay back in an AEW ring, fans can look forward to exciting action, but with a first time ever prize on the line at the end of the tournament, PAC, Penta Oscuro, Rey Fenix aren’t about to let Will Ospreay & Aussie Open walk through the Forbidden Door and take their opportunity.

The winner of this match will face The Elite, Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks and everyone in this match has a reason to want to test themselves against that trio.

Chris Jericho Must Come Face-To-Face With His JAS Protege

Things have gotten very shady in the Jericho Appreciation Society. After Daniel Garcia took Bryan Danielson to the limit last week, both men appeared to be showing Mutual signs of respect toward one another before Chris Jericho came and ruined the moment. Daniel Garcia, in response, immediately and uncharacteristically got in the face of Chris Jericho and stopped him from doing further harm to Bryan Danielson.

Tonight, Jericho and Garcia go face-to-face. Will this be the beginning of the implosion of the JAS, simply the exile of Daniel Garcia, or perhaps a ruse all orchestrated by Chris Jericho? Also, how does Bryan Danielson fit into this situation, if he does at all?

Tensions are high, and that makes for a combustible situation on Dynamite.

The Evolution Of Ricky Starks Will Be Televised

Ricky Starks will address the audience tonight. With the betrayal of Powerhouse Hobbs still relatively fresh, what will Ricky Starks have to say? Will The Factory still be looking to make Powerhouse Hobbs’ life easier? How much longer will it be before Hobbs and Starks meet one-on-one? Perhaps we will find out some answers tonight.

Britt Baker Plans To Make Quick Work Of KiLynn King

Tonight, Britt Baker will go one-on-one with KiLynn King. After a brief brawl on AEW Dark, both women have something to prove tonight and with the Women’s World Championship match locked in for AEW All Out 2022, Baker has nothing to lose and everything to prove as she looks to climb back up the ladder. As for King, she is looking to find a permanent place on the roster after openly speaking about feeling like there was no room for her once AEW went back on the road following the pandemic.

Dax Harwood Goes One-On-One With The Former Franchise Of Ring Of Honor

Tonight, Dax Harwood and Jay Lethal will meet one-on-one for the first time ever. With both men signed to be on opposite sides of a Trios bout at All Out, neither man will likely come alone. Distractions aside, Dax Harwood has probably made a name for himself in singles competition and he will look to pick up what would be his biggest victory yet if he can beat the former Ring of Honor World Champion in singles action. Lethal, however, is not likely to go down that easily.

The Ass Man Faces His Ass Boy

The Gunn Club has imploded as Austin and Colten Gunn have aligned with Stokely Hathaway. Now, for the first time ever on Dynamite, it will be father vs. son as Billy Gunn looks to take his son Colten to the woodshed, to borrow a phrase from Jim Ross. Will all of the scissoring practice with The Acclaimed allow Billy Gunn to cut ties with his children, and just how effective will Stokely Hathaway be? We find out all the answers tonight.

The Elite members are sure to make their presence felt now that they are back together, and frienemy Hangman may be in the building. Also, a Casino Ladder Match looms in the distance with no announced participants as of yet, Athena is still seeking a match with Jade Cargill, and much more.

Here is the current lineup for AEW Dynamite on August 24:
