Chris Jericho Comments On Vince McMahon’s Retirement And If It Affects AEW

On July 22, Vince McMahon announced he would be retiring from WWE and stepping down as CEO. The news came in the middle of McMahon being investigated by the WWE board for sexual harassment and hush money allegations. McMahon has been head of WWE since he purchased the company from his father in the 80s, helping take WWE to its current heights.

Chris Jericho was part of major highs for WWE as the first-ever WWE Undisputed Champion and a multi-time World Champion.

Speaking to Cinema Blend, Jericho commented on McMahon’s retirement.

“The thing is, for me, I haven’t worked in the WWE since 2017. And I did work there almost 20 years. I always loved working with Vince. Learned a lot from him. And, you know, he had a great run. And then stepping back is, you know, probably for the best for him, even from a physical standpoint, because he runs himself so ragged from the workload that he has,” he said.

Jericho previously commented that McMahon is a “lad” who he loved working for.

When asked if the change in WWE with McMahon stepping down and Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan being Co-CEOS would affect AEW, Jericho replied, “I think one of the best things that we’ve done as a company with AEW is obviously we know WWE exists, and obviously we know that they’re out there and they see us as 1,000% competition. But we don’t really worry about what’s going on in their world. We’re much more concerned with our own shows, sharing the best shows we can, and improving everything we can, telling the best stories we can. So to me, they’re kind of a ship on their own, and we are much more diligent about AEW generally. I mean, like I said, I care, but not really worry. So is it going to affect us anyway? We’ll see… I don’t know if there will ever be, you know, a WWE vs AEW crossover pay per view. But stranger things have happened. So, we’ll see.”

Jericho previously stated that he didn’t think Vince would get in any real trouble over the alleged affair and hush money report, though his comments were given before more allegations against Vince were reported.

Jericho is coming off a victory over Eddie Kingston in a Barbed Wire Everywhere bout on AEW Dynamite Fyter Fest week two. Fans can find results from the show by clicking here.
