Inaugural STRONG Openweight Tag Team Champions Crowned At NJPW STRONG High Alert

New Japan Pro-Wrestling has crowned the first NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Champions.

NJPW previously began a tournament to determine the inaugural champions at the NJPW STRONG Ignition taping on June 19. In the first round, Aussie Open (Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher), Stray Dog Army (Misterioso and Barrett Brown), TMDK (Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls), and the team of Christopher Daniels and Yuya Uemura advanced. Aussie Open defeated Stray Dog Army in the semifinals, while Daniels and Uemura beat TMDK to punch their tickets to the finals.

At NJPW STRONG High Alert, in a match that aired on August 13, Aussie Open won the tournament by defeating Daniels and Uemura. As a result, they became the inaugural NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Champions. In doing so, they added more gold to the United Empire stable.

Davis and Fletcher have won tag team titles around the world; they are former champions with wXw, Revolution Pro Wrestling, PROGRESS Wrestling, PWA Black Label, and ATTACK! Pro Wrestling. Meanwhile, outside of NJPW, Daniels currently holds the DEFY Wrestling Tag Team Championship. He and Swerve Strickland won the titles by defeating The Bollywood Boyz at the second night of DEFY’s The World Is Yours Event.
