Jake Paul vs. Hasim Rahman Jr. – a secure KO or a split decision?
Love him or hate him, we cannot stop hearing about Jake Paul. He started boxing professionally not so long ago, and has a score of 5-0 so far, looking to update his wins to 6-0.
In the last 2 years he has fought four different opponents: he won against Ali Eson Gib with a TKO, and against Nate Robinson with a KO. In 2021, he won against Ben Askren with a TKO, and had two matches against Tyron Woodley where he won first with a split decision and then with a KO.
The fights were surely entertaining to watch, and maybe the press conferences even more. The young YouTube star certainly knows how to keep the crowd on their feet. He infiltrated the boxing world not too long ago, and has no signs of backing down.
All of his opponents so far have one thing in common, and that is they are not professional boxing players. Now, that will change soon. On August 6th, 2022 Jake Paul is fighting professional boxer Hasim Rahman Jr., son of former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman. It seems like the 31-year-old boxer does not really care about Paul’s 5-0 record given the previous opponents he had to face with. They are facing each other in a cruiserweight contest at Madison Square Garden in New York City, and given the fact that Rahman is the first professional boxer that Paul will go against in his young career, he does not seem bothered about whether he will win the fight.
They met this Tuesday for a press conference which was full of heated exchanges and trash talk amongst the young stars. Jake Paul insisted on placing a bet for the fight, offering $500.000 which was quickly turned down by Rahman. Annoyed by it, Paul took the conversation in a whole different direction. He started insisting Rahman changes his Instagram account to “I let my dad down” when he loses. He even started trash talking Rahman’s online presence saying that his following number got up once word was out that he will be fighting Jake Paul, to which Rahman replied “Boxing don’t got nothing to do with followers”.
Rahman claimed that Paul is scared of fighting against him, as he is not fighting him at heavyweight – “He wouldn’t have tried to drain me down to 200lb and cheat me under 210lb. That’s what they tried to do.“ His last fight in April, he fought at 224lbs, so now in only couple of months’ time, he will have to shed down at least 24lbs before he steps on that scale on August 5th. To make it interesting, Jake Paul has inserted a rehydration clause in their fight agreement, which means that Rahman cannot be above 215lbs during the second day weigh-in. He even criticized Paul’s team for drafting up a contract and making a “take it or leave it” offer, saying he had to agree to all rules and clauses in order to participate in the fight. However, with the fight gaining so much popularity already, this offer will surely pay off very well for Rahman, as he himself is aware that Jake Paul’s fights bring a lot of cash in through Pay Per View, as many people around the world will pay to see Jake Paul lose.
