UFC Rankings To Get Shakeup After UFC On Fox Prelims And Undercard
As if free agency and retirements didn't ravage the UFC's rankings enough as-is, Saturday's UFC on Fox card will.
#13 Women's Bantamweight Ashlee-Evans Smith dropped a decision to unbeaten Ketlen Vieria. Given the unusual rankings of the division (Jessica Eye is on a four fight losing streak and still ranked), it's possible both will still manage to hang on to top-15 spots.
#12 Flyweight Luis Smolka may not be as lucky. The 25-year old dropped his third consecutive fight to #9 Tim Elliott during Saturday's show. The UFC Flyweight division is finally emerging, but three consecutive losses usually means you get cut from the company altogether. Ironically, Smolka is 0-3 since criticizing Sergio Pettis for having an "injured vagina." Elliott and Smolka engaged in an insane grappling battle for three rounds, with Elliott taking the decision.
#8 Bantamweight Aljamain Sterling got back on track after two straight losses. The once-heralded prospect was able to grind out Augusto Mendes to earn a big win and keep his back off the wall.
Former Bellator and M-1 Heavyweight Champion Alexander Volkov picked up a huge win, as the #11 Heavyweight defeated a big name in Roy Nelson. While Nelson was unranked and has struggled against ranked talent himself, it's probably Volkov's best win since beating Blagoy Ivanov.
Longtime prospect Renato Moicano seemed to realize his potential on the show, as he edged out #5 Jeremy Stephens. Stephens is now 2-5 in his last 7.
