W. Morrissey Reflects On Taking His Connection With The Audience For Granted During His Time In WWE
W. Morrissey talks about the realization that he took his time on the main roster of WWE for granted and advises younger wrestlers not to take anything for granted.
W. Morrissey was once a bright prospect for the future of WWE. As part of a tag team with Enzo Amore, Big Cass had the opportunity to compete in major pay-per-view matches alongside John Cena and against names like AJ Styles, Chris Jericho, and Kevin Owens. As a solo star, he got the opportunity to wrestle Bryan Danielson and Big Show on pay-per-view.
Unfortunately, Morrissey went through a period in his life where he was struggling with addiction and the repercussions of that addiction. Now, he is looking back on his time in WWE and says that he believes he took for granted just how over he and Enzo were at the time.
“I wasn’t the best worker at that time. But when we got there, you know, our wrestling wasn’t up to par. But now, our promos were fantastic,” Morrissey said on Wrestling with Mindset with Jose G. “I always believed deep down that we would do something together on the main roster. If we did get that opportunity, I did believe that we would get over pretty, pretty good with the fans. We ended up doing that. I watch back some matches now, from those times. Man, I took it for granted then, but if you look into the crowd at some of the pay-per-views, so many people are wearing that Certified G t-shirt, in the moment. In the moment, I took it for granted. I just thought, ‘Man, it’s always going to be like this, the people are always going to be behind you,’ but to get the fans behind you to that degree, and then to keep them behind you to that degree is very, very difficult. So yeah, it definitely took some time. I took it for granted at the time. But it was just very magical. Things like that don’t come along very often, and I was just very blessed that I got to experience that.”
In that spirit, Morrissey advises younger superstars or those who desire to get in the business, not to take moments like that for granted and to enjoy the journey along the way.
“Enjoy it before you make it. Because there were so many times in FCW and NXT, where I was so worried and just so anxious to get to the main roster, and I completely didn’t cherish those times enough, especially [in] NXT, especially with that crew when we first started traveling. It was always, ‘When are we going to get called up? When are we going to the main roster?’ When I look back on my career, that was the happiest I ever was in wrestling was during that time in NXT when we first started hitting the road. So I really wished I would have cherished those times a lot more. So to anybody coming up in wrestling, cherish it now while things are hard. Cherish it while you’re not very good. Cherish it while you’re on your journey to making it because once you make it you’re gonna look back one day and say, ‘Man, that part before that — that journey was was way cooler,’” Morrissey said.
W. Morrissey recently finished up with IMPACT Wrestling and revealed in a recent interview that he would like to work with NJPW STRONG. Learn more here.
