Katlyn Chookagian Wants UFC To Change The Way UFC Views Women’s Fighters
Katlyn Chookagian picked up her second win in the UFC when she defeated Irene Aldana by split decision at UFC 210.
The female star now wants the promotion she fights for to start changing the way they view the division’s and the female competitors who are a part of them.
“My natural weight to fight at would be 125 (pounds),” Chookagian said after the event. “If they open up a flyweight (division), that would be perfect. I think it would be a good division to add. You could have a lot more super fights. I think they should look at the women’s divisions a little differently than they look at the men’s. There’s going to be a lot of girls fighting in two divisions. Now that I’ve fought at 135, I’m a little comfortable there. I could fight at both.”
Chookagian has seen all three of her fights in the UFC go the distance, she is 2-1-0 in UFC competition.
Even though she took the fight by split decision, the victorious Chookagian isn't conflicted about the result.
“I felt like I won,” Chookagian said. “I thought I won every round. I try not to game plan too specific because you never know what’s going to happen, but I was confident standing, on the ground, had been working a lot on my wrestling. So I was trying to go for the takedown a lot just because that’s what I’ve been working on. I wanted to prove that.”
There are currently three women’s divisions in the UFC right now, they are the featherweight, bantamweight and strawweight divisions. The future of the featherweight division remains uncertain, and UFC President Dana White claims the company isn't ready to add flyweights as of yet.
