Jonathan Coachman No Longer Covering WWE for ESPN

Jonathan Coachman’s Twitter has been pretty crazy as of late. After some controversial comments regarding ESPN’s lack of coverage about Mauro Ranallo’s recent absence from the commentary desk, Coachman announced that he will no longer be covering any WWE related content. That original tweet has now been deleted due to Coach’s admitted struggles with auto-correct but the content has since been confirmed nonetheless.

Coachman is now covering The Masters Golf tournament for ESPN, and says he felt his knowledge about WWE wasn't "respected."

When a follower told Coachman that there didn't appear to be anyone else at ESPN that could cover WWE, he responded:

Coachman did say that ESPN's coverage of WWE would continue, even if he was no longer a part of it.

The recent controversy surrounding Coachman stems from his response to Dave Meltzer’s criticisms of ESPN’s WWE coverage, and that rabbit hole has led him down a route that entailed the posting of some very questionable tweets. Whether it was a bizarre ‘we don’t report on rumours’ comment or a confusing denial of any bullying backstage in WWE altogether, Coach’s Twitter account has been overwhelmed by people sharing evidence to prove otherwise on almost all accounts.

While his Twitter account has been particularly wacky as of late though, ‘The Coach’ claims that he made the decision a month ago, “All WWE content is on own time. I have big project coming up. Decided a month ago. Don't have time,” he tweeted.

During his time as the figurehead of the WWE ESPN crossover, Coach interviewed talents such as Bill Goldberg, Daniel Bryan and Brock Lesnar, as well producing a variety of content in the build-up to last week’s WrestleMania 33 event. It seems that perhaps loyalty has led to some less than stellar tweets from the Sportscenter anchor but nonetheless, Coachman did seem genuinely committed to bringing the two worlds together and it will be interesting to see what’s next in the controversial relationship.
