Co-Main Event Set For One Championships 55

The co-main event has been set now for the upcoming One Championships 55 card as Ben Askren will be defending the welterweight title against Agilan Thani.

Askren (15-0-0-1NC) will be making the third defense of his championship, as he last defended it against Nikolay Aleksakhin at One Championships 41. Askren was also the first ever Bellator MMA Welterweight Champion and he never lost the title, as he was stripped of it when he chose to leave the promotion in 2014. The lone blemish on the record of Askren was a no contest against Luis Santos at One Championships 26, the no contest was due to an accidental eye poke from Askren.

Thani (7-0-0) has fought all but one of his professional MMA fights in the One Championships promotion, that other fight came in the Freestyle Full Contact Fighting promotion. Thani has yet to see any of his professional MMA fights go the distance and only two of them have gone past the opening round. Thani also won the Malaysian Invasion MMA Welterweight Tournament as an amateur, defeating Ooi Aik Tong in the finals.

One Championships 55 takes place on Friday, May 26 from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore with Angela Lee and Istela Nunes headlining.
