Sonya Deville To Represent WWE At LA Pride Parade
Sonya Deville will be present at the LA Pride Parade.
Pride month is set for June and multiple countries, including the United States, will celebrate the LGBTQ community.
Deville is the first openly gay female in WWE and has a prominent position in the company as an on-screen authority figure and wrestler. Deville will use her platform in WWE to continue to spread awareness as she is set to take part in the LA Pride Parade.
“Pride month is coming up and I am participating in the West Hollywood Pride Parade, which I’m super excited about. I’m representing WWE as the first openly gay female. We are going to have a float, or an exotic car of some sort, in the LA Pride Parade this year,” Deville said on the Pat McAfee Show.
Deville has previously represented WWE for New York World Pride and Fort Lauderdale Pride Parade.
Asked why the pride parades are so meaningful, Deville replied, “It’s camaraderie, visibility, being with WWE and representing WWE in a parade like this is showing so many people who grow up wanting to be wrestlers or just watch wrestling, ‘Hey, you’re welcome here and you’re represented and loved,’ not just be me, but by the entire company, we support you. It’s big messaging for the company and I’m glad to be there and pioneer it and talk about it and celebrate.”
Deville said she wants to continue to use her platform to make LGBTQ representation a big deal until everyone is more accepted and it’s no longer a big deal.
Deville had her crack at the Raw Women’s Championship on Monday, but lost to Bianca Belair. If you missed anything from Monday’s WWE Raw, check out Fightful’s full report on the show by clicking here.
