Wladimir Klitschko Says Upgrades Will Help Him Against Anthony Joshua
Wladimir Klitschko said his age will not be much of a disadvantage, if at all, in his upcoming title match against Anthony Joshua.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Klitschko said he is working towards ‘upgrading’ several aspects of his repertoire ahead of the fight against Joshua and that he wants to prove that, even at 41 years old, he’s still the best heavyweight boxer in the world.
“There’s so many things, even at this stage of my career, that is being upgraded. So, it’s getting better and more exciting,” Klitschko said. “I am happy about it and I am very fortunate. I’ve been working for it for a long time and things happen for a reason. I am happy about having AJ as my opponent because AJ needs me and I need AJ to make this event happen. That’s my passion, that’s my obsession and I want to show to myself that I’ve still got it.”
Klitschko will not only be dealing with a much younger and faster fighter in Joshua, but he will also have to shake off ring rust. He has not fought since the end of 2015, when he lost his unified heavyweight titles to Tyson Fury.
Joshua vs. Klitschko will take place at Wembley Stadium in London on April 29 in front of what is expected to be the largest boxing crowd in England’s history. Joshua is defending his IBF heavyweight title in the fight and
the vacant WBA “super” and IBO heavyweight titles will also be on the line.
